The Vampire Diaries

August 16, 2014

Okay. So I've gotten hooked onto a new series recently.  I just happened to be browsing for some cool stuff on Netflix that was closed captioned and stumbled upon The Vampire Diaries. Now, I was initially wary of this series thinking that it was like True Blood or Twilight. Boy, was I wrong. It totally sucked me in from the beginning. Yes, that was a deliberate pun.

What did it? Aside from the supremely good looking and talented cast, the storyline about two brothers and the cheeky one-liners by Damon Salvatore (played brillianty by Ian Somerhalder) and the charming personality of Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) - it was the realization that Paul Wesley reminded me of my character Ethan from the trilogy series (Jessie's boyfriend.) He was such a close match to him, I couldn't believe it! Oh. One other thing...did I mention that they are vampires?

I was caught by surprise by how much I liked the Vampire Diaries. I approached it with caution, thinking that I would immediately look for something else after the first episode. Noooo. I had to watch another one. Then another one. I would find myself staying up to midnight watching it. Strangely, time seems to vanish whenever it's on.
Hmmmm.

Here's one of the scenes that really appealed to me and kept me watching the series: http://youtu.be/yHZF_1u5nik

Another hilarious scene featuring Ian Somhalder: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-nxULbkIzk

A great look into Paul Wesley's acting, he is SUPERB: http://youtu.be/28J5gz-hfHU

I love the way they keep me on the edge of my seat, gripping my Jellycat in fear, the next moment sniffling sadly and holding back tears then suddenly laughing out loud at one of Damon's remarks. It really is a roller coaster ride of emotions. Ian is truly hilarious at this stuff.  He's seductive, dark and sinfully playful like a wicked cat playing with a mouse. I also love the combination of witches and werewolves which I did not anticipate.  The overall chemistry of the cast works here which says a LOT. Plus I love some of their clothes and jewelery they wear, pretty sweet stuff there.

The superb list of amazing actors includes: Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Nina Dobrev, Candice Accola, Steven R. McQueen (Yes!!! He's the grandson of Steve McQueen!) and many more.

If you want more neat stuff about this series, definitely go check out their Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/thevampirediaries/timeline - they often have great pics and behind the scenes treats for the fans.

Plus, not only is actor Ian talented and good looking, he's also charitable - in fact, he created the Ian Somerhalder Foundation to help animals and the environment - http://www.isfoundation.com/welcome

What an amazing guy!

Changes

August 16, 2014
You may have already noticed changes happening to this website.  Aside from updating my books to feature awards they've won, I've also changed "The Chronicles" page to "My Thoughts" which seems more accurate. This page is essentially like a journal. While it may seem a bit personal at times, I felt it was necessary to include it since my trilogy series is based on my life growing up with a hearing loss. I wanted to educate people on what it's like being hearing impaired and show the im...

Be kind to yourself

August 16, 2014

Not everyone is open to be being completely honest or forthright about their innermost thoughts or feelings.  It's not easy to reveal that side to others.  That's what friends and family are for, to lend an ear or hug when they need it most. It's better than shrouding yourself in darkness which can trigger a downfall that's hard to come back from. Give yourself a break and treat your body and mind to the kindness it deserves.

In this day and age, we are under an enormous amount of stress and ...

Perception

August 14, 2014

Robin Williams death has certainly opened eyes around the world. Not only has he brought laughter into our lives, he still continues to inspire us by showing us the importance of staying in touch with each other. He is still teaching us that we need to find ways of reaching out to those that need help, even if it means just listening to them or giving them a hug.

Mental illness, including depression, is not an easy topic to discuss and it's not clearly understood by most people. It's not unti...

John Barrowman goes Deaf for a day

August 11, 2014

Recently, actor John Barrowman, tackled the task of going Deaf for a day to learn what's it like to live in a world of silence. He was shocked to discover just how challenging it proved to be which left him feeling utterly exhausted by the end of the day.

I'm absolutely thrilled that he chose to give this a try, most people would wimp out at this opportunity for fear of being mocked or teased by their friends, peers or family members.  Even though their hearts may be in the right place, they...

Normally I don't post other people blogs like this, but this one totally made my day! I was laughing so hard that tears were running down my face.  It's simply hilarious and an honest reflection of things people often say to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. It happens ALL the time. Plus, there are superbly funny pics of Captain Picard illustrating those comments.
